Sharp Shooter SA week 3 Landscape Photography by Pierre Bassani

Week 3
Brief: Landscape photography.
Sub Brief: Capture the mood of the lodge: incorporating Leisure.
Venue: Komatie Lodge Mpumalanga
Time of day: Afternoon Shoot.
Equipment: D700, 24-70, 12-24
I immediately stepped up to be team leader this week, but not that it means anything, other than if you don't get immunity, you can pick someone to take up with you to face the panel....
I chose the afternoon, as we were going to be at the lodge the whole day, and unlike the other tasks which never took place at the times the teams chose, due to traveling from venue to venue , I had a feeling we were in for good lighting and the crew was going to be on time today....
Unfortunately it wasn't the case, but thank goodness for that. When we finally got to the top of the Gorge the sun was shining into our lenses. Knowing we had an hour to play with, I stalled my shot till the very end when the light in the sky was almost equal to the lighting at the lodge, as well as lighting the river up with a bit of the warm reflecting sky.
I let all the contestants make use of the models, and when the light was almost 100% for me, I took over and directed the models so that they looked completely at leisure, and fired away 4 shots. The couple moved a bit too much, so I pushed the ISO to 2400 as I knew the Nikon was perfect for low light conditions without any grain . I think I used F9 with a wide angle lens to ensure the models as well as the landscape would remain in semi focus, and at the same time this also pushed the shutter speed up to about 15th of a sec and I asked the couple to remain dead still, and so they did.
The Shot was sharp so I packed up and began helping Tasmin to capture her shot. Guess which one is hers... its the one on the top right. pretty good  and was shot at iso 6400, as the light started to fade fast. good one Nikon
My computer gave no problems this time and I was finished in post ahead of time.In the gallery it was my first time to face the judges, and as the record goes, 90 of the the volunteer team leaders were eliminated so far. The nerves were huge, and I had to decide who I would take up this evening if I was in the loosing team. Paul's shot was slammed by the judges, but that didn't help, as he had immunity from the last challenge, so it was Sam or Tasmin.
Luckily the Judges chose my shot as the weeks best shot, so no one needed to be called up, and I received my Prize which was a week at the Legacy Kruger Park Lodge. Great one, as I love the wild. With the prize I also get immunity on next weeks task, so I can play a little more next week, maybe go over the top to test the judges.... Yip Ill still be in the competition for at least another 2 weeks.....
